Clean

Words that have worn roads in my brain finally spilled from my lips.

He asks; “You’re breaking up with me?!”

He starts crying.

Fuck.

10 years of bullshit won’t allow a clean escape.

This is my response to the prompt from awesomesauce Trifecta.

This week the word was:

clean (adjective)

1: free from dirt or pollution
2: unadulterated, pure
3 a : free from moral corruption or sinister connections of any kind
b : free from offensive treatment of sexual subjects and from the use of obscenity

c : observing the rules : fair

Third definition of course. Go on over, read, post, comment.

  1. Crying...and your sucked back in. It never leads to a "clean" break. Great and different take on this prompt. Love the simplicity.

  2. I love the first sentence and how it colors the whole piece. You know she's been mulling it over in her head, trying to build up the courage, but she knows she's got to end it...

  3. I like the first sentence a lot. It makes it clear that this was a well thought out choice. The longer the relationship, the harder the break up...

  4. Brutal. I was more of the disappearing person. Though I sometimes thought it was they who did the disappearing. Them?

    1. By the time it ended we had both pretty much disappeared. I think that's why I was so surprised at the display of emotion.

  5. we have all been there at some point in our lives, that's for sure. moving on is difficult, but in the end, someone usually comes along that makes it all worth it, at least it did for me.

  6. Fabulous first line.I love the image of words wearing roads in the brain. This certainly does not bode well for a clean break. Thanks for joining up and see you on the weekend.
